Deieners Meeting

After Church
MEETING FOR ALL DIENERS and those who may want to be Dieners because help is needed.
Please stay after church on Sunday, October 14th so we can discuss plans for next year. We will meet in the Sunday School sanctuary directly following the worship service. We need everyone's input on what will work best for Advent. The ladies who are willing to serve as dieners and the men who are coffee carriers are greatly appreciated and your input is requested at this planning meeting.
multiple Sundays
11:00 AM
Our Advent Stewardship Series will be on
September 30,
October 14,
October 21 and
October 28.
The focus this year will be on the “Four Principles of Biblical Stewardship” (retrieved from ).
The principles include Ownership, Responsibility, Accountability and Reward. We encourage you to check out the principles on the above website.
The Time and Talent sheets and Pledge Cards will be distributed Sunday, September 30th and collected until October 30th; they can be turned in sooner. The Time and Talent sheet can be given to Ginger Haynes, placed in her mailbox or placed in the box in the Sunday School Sanctuary.
We ask you to prayerfully consider how you can participate in activities to serve Advent and more importantly to serve the Lord.
As you prepare for this series, think about this quote from C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity (as cited in ),
“Every faculty you have, your power of thinking or of moving your limbs from moment to moment, is given you by God. If you devoted every moment of your whole life exclusively to His service, you could not give Him anything that was not in a sense His own already."
God Bless You All, The Stewardship Committee

Notices from the newsletter

If you've served in the Armed Forces, please let Joe Pardue know. Advent Sunday School wants to recognize your name and branch of service. Joe knows many of you who served, but not all, and he needs to be reminded of the correct branch you were in.
Thanks for your service and sacrifice!
Advent Sunday School would also like to recognize any First Responders at Advent, retired or still working. Whether or not any of you attend the Opening Service. The names will be printed in the Advent Adventures for recognition. Send an email to Joe Pardue with the information or text 336-971-8889 to avoid any errors or omissions.
Please help Joe out and go ahead and complete this task and don't put it off, Advent wants to get this right and accurate. Advents Veterans will be recognized in the Sunday School Opening on November 11, 2018.
November is only a month away!

If your contact information has changed since the printing of our last directory (2015) please note those changes on the sheet posted on the bulletin board across from the mailboxes OR
    email the changes to Jennifer

  • Rev. Jack Nance Memorial Offering
The Regional Conference of Churches South Branch is taking up an offering for the late Rev. Jack Nance who was Pastor at Hopewell and Supply Pastor at Community Fellowship for several years. He also worked at Laurel Ridge as Dean and Counselor for over 30 years.
In his memory the RCC South Branch would like to take the any gifts received and send them to Laurel Ridge where in turn they will purchase some Rocking Chairs for the deck at Salem Wing and at least one canoe for the campers.
This action has been approved by the Joint Board and we will allow for anyone who wishes to give to do so from September 9 through the 23rd. You may use the envelopes in your bulletin or separate check. However, either way please note it as “Jack Nance offering” so the Treasurer can distinguish it from our regular offering.

  • Teacher help needed
The Sunday School is still in need of teaching help and if you could help just one Sunday a month or more, it would help. Our teachers all volunteer what they do and they need support from all of us! Speak with Joe if you can help teach.
